Used the CAT 424 a lot lately, mostly for load shifting and digging. The engine got some tweaks, you can feel it's a bit smoother than before and there's less vibration. So I tried out the Caterpillar 424 for a few weeks now, mostly for loading and dosing jobs, and my first impression is that the thing's got a noticeably better dump height and reach than the old 420 I used to run. Super handy on tighter sites. Loader bucket can go pretty high, actually fits under some taller trucks I usually have trouble with. The engine's quiet and feels like it pulls a bit harder too, which is cool. That new eco mode is interesting, not sure I'm a fan though - sometimes I want full juice and it sort of holds back a bit. The cab is way quieter, even without the AC running, and the windows actually stay where I put them (my last machine was a pain for that). Daily service stuff is way easier to get at, no more squeezing in stupid spots just to top off the fluids. Only gripe is the air ducts - there are plenty, but they kinda blast one spot and the rest of the cab stays hot. Not a huge deal but you notice after a long day.
